Black History Month NBC Spotlight - Momentum Coffee
This year for Black History Month our sister location, Momentum Coffee and Coworking, was showcased on NBC Sports Chicago's black business segment featured by Jack Daniels. We always appreciate the opportunity to highlight the work we do, the neighborhoods we work in, and the people that work with us.
Last year during the pandemic the Ignite Technology and Innovation family grew. Our sister location, Momentum Coffee and Coworking opened in South Loop Chicago and was ready for business. It's a different location with the same mission, to empower small businesses and break down boundaries. Co-owners Tracy Powell and Nikki Bravo set out to marry coffee with coworking, to find a cool and unique way to extend the things they already do as a non for profit to different neighborhoods around Chicago.
To help extend the mission of providing accessible resources and affordable coworking to underserved communities around Chicago, Momentum Coffee and Coworking made sure to partner with other local black and brown businesses. For instance, Peeka's Sweet Treats provides their delicious baked goods. Their savory chicken sausage sandwiches are from a local food cooperative called Chi Fresh Kitchen. The distinctive coffee served is in partnership with Dark Matter Coffee. Moreover, refreshingly original art pieces, all done by black artists, decorate the space.
As it stands, Momentum Coffee and Coworking is a demonstration of what can be done. That you can still create value in neighborhoods that people have forgotten about and nullify the effects of race to create healthier communities. Akin to their logo, Momentum is here to power up individuals, communities, entrepreneurs, and solopreneurs. So if you have not already, you should stop by our sister location on 2119 S State Street. Grab some coffee, get some work done in their open coworking space, and tell them we sent you.
